2011 Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Benefit Auction

Sunday, May 1. 2011, 3:00PM

The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Associates and the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation present a silent and live auction of works by acclaimed contemporary artists—many of whom got their start at the gallery.

For more than fifty years the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery has been the City of Los Angeles’s primary exhibition venue for visual art. It has operated with equity and impartiality, embracing a wide-ranging aesthetic while remaining mindful of its responsibility to the public and striving to enhance the quality of life for all Angelinos. Over its life span the gallery has presented hundreds of exhibitions that showcased the work of thousands of artists from the region—many at the earliest stages in their careers. In an expanding environment of cultural exchange and imagination, the Municipal Art Gallery is a vital forum for introducing citizens to their own cultural heritage and the art of our time.

The benefit will help fund the exhibitions and innovative, participatory programs that have become the hallmark of a cultural institution dedicated to fostering awareness, curiosity, and creative seeing.

The New Short Fiction Series™ moves to LAMAG in 2010

The New Short Fiction Series™, Los Angeles’ longest running spoken word series, is moving to the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park in cooperation with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Reservations are recommended. Performances begin at 7:00 pm, admission is $10.00 with advance purchase, $15.00 at the door. For program information and tickets visit www.newshortfictionseries.com or call 866-811-4111.

The New Short Fiction Series™ is an institution, and a unique one—an exciting hybrid of literary and theatrical arts, nationally acknowledged for promoting the literature of West Coast writers. An invaluable and integral part of the Los Angeles literary scene, The New Short Fiction Series is one of the few great and original venues for narrative fiction to be enjoyed by an audience. West Coast writers face unusual obstacles in living so far from the New York center of publishing. The New Short Fiction Series™ provides writers and audiences a vital link to a wider literary network, and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery believes that this spoken word series is one of the best ways to make literature available to the widest possible audience in Southern California.
