Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Founded and opened in 1954, its mission is to promote, interpret, and present the art of emerging, mid career, and established artists from culturally diverse Southern California. The Gallery showcases art from other parts of the world that is of relevance to the people of the City of Los Angeles. Its 10,000 square foot venue offers a dramatic exhibition space for large thematic group exhibitions that represent the current endeavors of area artists as well as exhibitions of work by individuals who have made a significant contribution to art in Los Angeles in particular and Southern California at large. The curatorial focus of the Gallery includes painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, video, sound, electronic, performance, and installation works. Once a year the Gallery serves as the host venue for the DCA’s City of Los Angeles (C.O.L.A.) Individual Artist Fellowships exhibition, featuring the work of the City’s best mid career artists.
Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) generates and supports high quality arts and cultural experiences for Los Angeles’ 4 million residents and 40 million annual overnight and day visitors. DCA advances the social and economic impact of the arts and ensures access to diverse and enriching cultural activities through: grant making, marketing, public art, community arts programming, arts education, and building partnerships with artists and arts and cultural organizations in neighborhoods throughout the City of Los Angeles

Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Associates (LAMAGA) is a private non-profit corporation founded in 1952, whose primary mission is to promote, assist, and serve as advocates for the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. LAMAGA provides financial, marketing, and public relations support for the Gallery’s exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. Its principal mandates have been to enhance the exhibition programs, promote visitor understanding and appreciation of art through the education program, and to insure the Gallery’s accessibility and involvement with City-wide audiences and the surrounding immigrant communities. LAMAGA supports the Gallery financially through grant writing and the administration of grant funds, personal solicitations, production and sale of exhibition catalogues, ancillary programs, and fundraising events developed with Gallery staff to compliment the exhibitions.
