Docent Program

Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Docent Program

Being a docent at LAMAG is a great way to learn about contemporary art, meet people with similar interests, and share your knowledge with visitors. Docents are a vital and valued part of the LAMAG team.
LAMAG is committed to building a diverse team and welcomes people who would like to build relationships between the gallery and its audiences. Docents work in a number of areas, including:

Gallery Welcome Desk

Docents at the welcome desk greet and orient visitors and oversee all front of gallery activities. This opportunity is ideal for docents who want to interact and speak with the public about the gallery and Barnsdall Art Park.

Gallery Facilitator

Facilitators are people-focused docents who engage with our visitors and improve their experience by providing appropriate information on the exhibitions on view in the Gallery. Facilitators also help to maintain the Gallery throughout the day, but their primary focus is on helping visitors.

Public Program and Events Docent

Public Program and Events docents work hands-on in the execution and engagement of visitors through public programs. Public programs include educational, exhibition-based classes, workshops, lectures, and performances that are offered for free to the general public.

How to Apply

The gallery recruits docents on a rolling basis throughout the year. If you are interested in this role, please send a 1 page introductory letter to outlining your interests, skills and relevant experience.
