To View a Plastic FlowerTell Your Side of the Story Activity
The artists in the exhibit To View a Plastic Flower examined how various media forms are constructed. They questioned the author’s bias and politics by reframing their stories. Participants were invited to explore the magazines and newspapers in their homes to make a collage that tells a story about contemporary events.
Step 1: Gather materials. You will need glue, magazine or newspaper, scissors, whiteout (if available), and black marker.
Step 2: Ask. What is the main idea of this article? What story isn’t being told?
Step 3: Make and interpret. Decide how you want to tell your side of the story. Then, cut out the relevant images and text from the article. Create a composition that reflects your viewpoint. Feel free to add or obstruct information
