Join LAMAG in Partnershop with NEA’s Big Read Program for a bookmaking workshop inspired by themes in Dinaw Mengestu’s novel The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears, which was selected by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles for the 2019 NEA Big Read. Mengestu’s debut novel reflects on the importance of community and belonging by focusing on varying levels of displacement, including immigration and gentrification.

 

Join artist and educator Lupita Limón Corrales for a free, all-ages workshop to share your own ideas about home and community. Create, publish, and distribute a small edition of artist books that memorialize your relationship to place and reflect on issues affecting our city today.

 

The first 15 people to attend the workshop and complete a survey will receive a free copy of Mengestu’s novel.
